ROW SEVENTY NINE    (Palmer gives no name)

       Three Pigeons Row*2

           Lobster Row *2

           Jolly Maltster's Row*2

            Hills Row*2

Not many years since, there  were  cow  sheds in this row. In  1835 John Finch was a cow keeper here.

In the  residence  at  the south‑east corner, lodged  for some time, George Borrow the author. (1803‑1881) Mr.Frank Hill senior has  had  the  pleasure  of  taking  tea with Borrow at Oulton. The  printers and publishers of this guide book, had in 1928,  extensive  and up to date works in this row.*2

From Howard Street to King Street:   At the south‑west corner is  a  public  house  formerly called the "Three pigeons", afterwards "The lobster", and now "The Jolly Maltsters". Near to the Lobster, there was in 1784, a house in so dilapidated a state as to be dangerous to passengers, and the corporation ordered it to be taken down.*1

The 1936 row survey says    "Occupied  on  the  south  side  by  the Yare  Printing  Co.,  has  also  on  the  north side, similar business premises.   There are four or five very poor  tenements,  very crowded together. These should  be  demolished.  This  row,  with  no.78, is devoted  to  business  premises otherwise".
