Row One Hundred and Forty One map
From Middlegate Street to King Street:
“A tavern named the "Spotted Cow" was
at the east end of this row, and a
family named Rackham, long held the licence. For many years this row contained
cowsheds. This was when cattle grazed just beyond the town's boundary ‑
i.e. walls and towers. There were some ancient flint houses here, used as fish‑curing
houses in 1927. A curious carved oak
beam supported some property over a lofty passage mid‑way on the south
side. Two sprays of flowers and foliage with a band, suggested probably a
ship's figure‑head.”[1]
Palmer says nothing of this row.
